Curaçao can roughly be divided into four main areas, each catering to different travel styles and preferences. Depending on what kind of experience you’re looking for, you can find the perfect place to stay in one of these regions. And because Curaçao is so diverse, each area also includes its own unique neighborhoods and vibes.
1. Jan Thiel & Mambo Beach
These are the most popular beach areas on the island. With a lively mix of shops, restaurants, and beach bars, there’s plenty of entertainment both during the day and at night. Because of their popularity, these areas are the most developed and attract the largest number of tourists. Ideal for travelers who love a vibrant, social atmosphere.
2. Willemstad & Pietermaai
Pietermaai is known for its charming boutique hotels along the coast, and it’s the go-to area for nightlife, with plenty of trendy restaurants and cozy bars. In nearby Punda and Otrobanda, you’ll be staying right in the heart of Willemstad’s UNESCO World Heritage zone. This area is perfect for those who want an authentic cultural experience combined with city charm.
3. Central Curaçao
This region is great for those who want a balance between convenience and peace. You’re close enough to enjoy the vibrant city and beach life, yet far enough to relax in quieter surroundings. The central area still offers supermarkets and restaurants, but it’s less busy than Jan Thiel or Willemstad. Plus, it gives you easy access to the island’s most beautiful natural beaches with crystal-clear waters and colorful marine life.
4. Bandabou & Westpunt
A dream for nature lovers. Wake up to birdsong, enjoy stunning views of the sea or hills, and experience the peaceful, authentic landscape of Curaçao. This is where you’ll find charming hidden bays, untouched nature, and local wildlife. Keep in mind that while restaurants and shops are fewer here, the tranquility and beauty more than make up for it.
