The currency currently used in Curaçao is the Antillean guilder, which will be replaced by the Curaçao guilder on April 1, 2025. The new guilder will hold the same value as the current one.

The guilder is pegged to the US dollar, with most stores using an exchange rate of 1.75. However, the Euro exchange rate fluctuates, so it’s helpful to check the rate if you plan to exchange Euros. US dollars and Antillean guilders are widely accepted in cash, but Euros are rarely accepted.

If you’re withdrawing cash, it’s more cost-effective to take out larger amounts. Each withdrawal has a fixed fee from both the local bank and your own, so withdrawing more minimizes the per-transaction cost. Ensure your bank card is set to “world” for international use.

Using your debit card directly is recommended, as it’s accepted almost everywhere on the island with no extra fees—unlike credit cards, which often carry higher transaction fees.

Avoid carrying all your cash at once, and ensure you have multiple payment methods on hand. This way, if anything happens, you’ll still have options for payment.
